Collective Worship

Collective Worship is an integral part of St. Stephen’s C of E Primary School.

Our pupils participate in Collective Worship every day learning about stories from the Bibles and studying in depth the Christian Values.

We have close links to our local Church, St. Stephen’s, where we celebrate key dates throughout the year such as Christmas, Easter and the Leaver’s performance.

At St. Stephen’s Collective worship is a daily event and is central to the life of the school. Collective worship makes a major contribution to upholding the religious character and Christian distinctiveness of a church school. We see Collective Worship as an important opportunity to provide pupils with spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  Collective worship, at St. Stephen’s, is integral to our ethos, vision and mission statement. We seek to develop the children’s respect for and understanding of Christianity, to understand Anglican traditions and practice and to give them awareness of other faiths and festivals. St. Stephen’s has an established relationship with the clergy of the local church.

In St Stephen’s our Christian vision shapes all we do.

As an inclusive, Christian school, we will nurture, inspire, empower and expect every child to achieve their very best in life, work and the community.

‘Collective Worship in a Church school should enable every child and adult to flourish and to live life in all its fullness. (John 10:10). It will help educate for wisdom, knowledge and skills, hope and aspiration, dignity and respect, and developing community and understanding of living well together.

This year children, in Collective Worship, will learn in depth about 6 Christian values:

Autumn 1

Koinonia

Autumn 2

Thankfulness

Spring 1

Peace

Spring 2

Compassion

Summer 1

Endurance

Summer 2

Hope

Shown on the right are a few display boards pupils created showing three Christian Values.

Prayer is central to the life of the school and collective worship strongly supports spiritual development across the school community.

A really important part of our Faith is Collective Worship and I want to urge parents to continue discussing and sharing some of the excellent resources provided by the    Diocese as it gives us hope and faith during these challenging times.

The resources come directly from the SDBE and  they will be updated on a regular basis - see left column below for the different themes.
